Iris Recognition: The iris is a thin, coloured, circular part of the eye, located in its front. When we refer to someone’s eyes as “black”, or “blue”, it is this part that we are talking of. Just like the biological features of human fingers, the iris of every human is unique. In this method, the mesh work of this membrane & its freckles are used to identify a person. Scans are taken with a regular video camera or a specialized scanner. It was employed by the Indian government for the country’s national ID program, Aadhaar.
Fingerprint Recognition: This is one of the most popular types of biometrics. The characteristics of a fingertip surface – the patterns of the ridges, valleys (Minutiae) and furrows – are analyzed to determine identification. Included in these patterns are the arches, whorls (Spirals and concentric circles) and loops of the fingerprint. Two images are checked for a match to ascertain the identity of a person. Apart from being commonly used in biometric attendance system, it is also utilized in forensics.
Face Recognition: Visual biometrics analyses the facial features – like the distance between eyes, the size of the nose and the shape of the cheekbones – using computer applications to authenticate an identity. First, images are taken by a security or real-time 3D camera, and then evaluated and the measurements recorded in a database. Unless a 3D camera is used, there needs to be ample lighting for the images. This technique’s most notable application is in law enforcement areas.
Voice Recognition: Voice has over one hundred characteristics! Auditory biometrics compares the voice of a speaker with its corresponding pre-recorded voice model template to verify their claim of being of a certain someone. In case of an unknown speaker, it is compared against several templates. This type uses measurable physiological and behavioral factors for recognition. Pitch, frequency and nasal tone are a few of these factors. Perhaps its most common application is in telephone banking.
